What is Buldak?

Samyang launched Buldak Bokkeum Myeon in Korea in 2012, and it became famous worldwide through 'fire noodle challenge' videos. Unlike soup ramen, Buldak is a stir-fried noodle: you boil the noodles, drain most of the water, and toss them in a thick, sweet-spicy sauce.

The range now includes many flavors, from Carbonara and cheese to extra-hot 2x and 3x Spicy. Korean soup noodles (ramyeon) from brands like Nongshim, Ottogi and Paldo make a milder, brothy bowl.

How to choose

  • Start mild: Carbonara, cream and cheese flavors are the usual first step.
  • Medium to hot: the Original is very hot for most people; 2x and 3x Spicy are for experienced spice lovers.
  • Cup or pack: packs make bigger portions and are easier to drain; cups are convenient but saucier.
  • Allergens: most contain wheat and soy, and some flavors contain milk.

How to cook it and tame the heat

Boil the noodles for about 5 minutes, drain, leaving a few tablespoons of water, then stir in the sauce and toppings over low heat for 30 seconds.
